Parish Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols

(17th December 2017)

The Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was held on the evening of 17th December 2017 - and included choral works and congregational singing. Well known carols included O little Town of Bethlehem,The First Nowell, O come all ye faithful, Away in a Manger and, to conclude the service, Silent Night. Choral works performed by the choir which were perhaps new to some of the congregation included People Look East (text - Eleanor Farjeon; music - French trad.), Sans Day Carol (from St Day, Cornwall), Christmas (Englebert Humperdinck 1854-1921 - arranged for choir by Winton Barry), and Sing Gloria (William James and Alfred Wheeler). Before the final carol, tenor Michael MacRobbie sang The Holy Boy (John Ireland 1938), and the service concluded with the Widor Toccata from Symphony No. 5 played on the church organ by Organist Winton Barry.
